about

Growing Collards was a two month long project by Li Pallas with heaps of help from Heidi Hickman, Laine Kaplan-Levenson, Gia Hamilton, and many others which ran from Oct 2nd-Dec 10th. It collected and occupied from various spaces including The Front Gallery, The Old Ironworks, The Sustainable Food Conference, Louisiana Artworks, and the PhotoNola Slideluck Potluck, while maintaining a home at Gris Gris Lab in Central City. It gathered 300 photos, 180 drawings and recipe cards, and over 90 voice file stories. While the project had its final cumulative exhibition, there is still much information to be collated and displayed. Parties interested in reviewing and sorting audio or showing any part or whole of the information collected may contact Li at li.pallas.loves.you@gmail.com

What is Growing Collards?:
a journalistic story sharing two month long design/eat arts project by folk arts media maker Li Pallas. Li invites you to explore all the practical and existential qualities of growing, cooking, and eating collards by inviting the entire New Orleans community to share in the design plans, recipe writing, and feasting. The design/grow portion will evolve over the month of October when you can drop by during gallery hours to draw plans or help plant. In November the project picks up speed when Li will be available by appointment or during gallery hours to collect methods of collard preparations. Additionally, on Saturdays through November we will be actively cooking and eating our collards! Participation is key and necessary to the evolution of the piece! The stories, photographs, drafting sketches, and recipes collected will also be on view during this period and later available in book form.
